Types of Dental Insurance Coverage

Dental insurance plans work in a similar way as health insurance plans work. There is a monthly premium that is paid and it covers a certain set of dental issues. For more rare dental issues such as teeth extraction or more extensive work the policy holder is given a set of deductibles and benefits.

There are two main types of dental insurance plans, a managed care plan or an indemnity plan. The differences between the two types can be seen in the choice of providers as well as the amount of money spend in out of pocket costs. Indemnity plans are usually more expensive but offer a larger range of providers, however it comes with drawbacks as well.

Most of these plans require the user to pay the costs and then are later reimbursed for the amount they paid. If one doesn’t have the money to pay up front this is a harder plan to deal with. Managed care plans
